Yesterday the students made their own multi-step equation posters with some foam snowflakes I had lying around. I'm not wishing for a snow day or anything already (<-- Sarcasm)

It was great to hear students taking about equations, variables, the distributive property, and combining like terms in this activity. Especially from a class that won't even talk to each other yet. Yesterday they created the posters. Today we are going to complete a gallery walk where the students will solve the equations to determine how many snowflakes are hidden in the envelopes.

4(1x+1)+1x+2=16

4(1x+3)+4=32

2(3x+4)+2x+8=32

4(2x+2)=32

4(1x+1)+4=16

3(1x+2)+2x+3=29

3(1x+3)+3x+3=24

#### Reflection:

I loved hearing conversations about what terms should go inside or outside the parenthesis. Students were having discussions about coefficients and terms, and then even how to solve the equation. This is so much better than me telling them what to do.

Did students make up their own equations? Or did you give them the equations and they had to represent it on the poster? Love the idea!
